Pruritus ani is the Latin term for itching in the anus. It refers to itching in the anal region that affects the quality of life. There are many diseases that can cause itching in this region (anal fissure, hemorrhoidal disease, perianal fistula, incontinence, dermatitis, infectious diseases, metabolic diseases such as diabetes, etc.). The absence of any of these diseases but the complaint of itching is considered as primary pruritus ani. The exact cause may not always be found. It is possible to diagnose with a detailed questioning and physical examination with the complaint of itching in the anus. Although it is difficult to treat, the main goal is to obtain clean, dry and firm skin.

Common complaints such as pain, discharge, itching, swelling and bleeding in the perianal area are mostly due to benign diseases.
